Chapter Seventeen

Declan

Declan’s heart was in his throat as he saw the indecision flash on Andi’s face before she grinned, the smile not quite meeting her eyes as she stepped aside. “Sure, no hassle. JJ would love to dance with you.”

After his brief conversation with the actor, Declan now knew he was exactly what Andi had told him and not competition for Andi’s affections. JJ shook his head as he backed away, mumbling that the two of them were perfect for one another. Andi stood there staring at him then her face fell and she looked like she was about to bolt.

Declan swept forward, forcing Andi to wrap her arms around his neck, his hands pulling her to him the moment he slid them down her body and rested on the curve where her hip and her ass met.

Andi shivered at his touch and it gave him confidence, despite the fact that Declan had two left feet and didn’t have a clue what he was doing and he emphasized that by nearly trampling on Andi’s very expensive shoes.

“I’m not good at this.” He mumbled, pulling Andi flush against his body, almost groaning at how right this felt, having her in his arms finally, where he felt that she belonged if only he could convince her that they were meant to be together.

Andi tilted up her head and it was like being back with the girl who had stolen his heart, who say into his very soul and knew him once again.

“Just imagine we are in your mam’s kitchen at 2 am and I’m helping you practise for the dance. Just sway to the music, Declan. You know music, and dancing is just moving to music.”

He did as he was told, swaying instead of trying to dance like JJ could, and just held Andi to him, the breath almost leaving his lungs when she rested her head against his chest and when the song changed, she heard her sing softly along with the melody and he fell all over again.

“Your heart is racing.” His Andi remarked, lifting her head to look up at him and he tried to tell her with his expression exactly why.

“It’s because after all these years, you’re here in my arms and I don’t want to let you go. I made a stupid childish mistake and it cost me the chance to be with you.”

Andi sighed and dipped her eyes. “That’s all in the past.”

“It’s not for you, Andi, because I can see how much I hurt you. I said it, I admit that but I didn’t mean it. I was trying to play it cool in front of Rhys, because you were always so private and I didn’t want to tell your brother that I was in love with you before I told you.”

Stumbling back, Andi shook her head and when Declan went to take her in his arms again, she let him but couldn’t help the way her body stiffened. He wanted to tell her everything and this was his chance, his shot at redemption.
